Sierra Leone

Declaration:

"With regard to article 3, paragraph 2, of the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the participation of Children in Armed Conflict, the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone declares that:
1. The minimum age for voluntary recruitment into the Armed Forces is 18 years;
2. There is no compulsory, forced or coerced recruitment into the National Armed Forces;
3. Recruitment is exclusively on a voluntary basis."

Reservation and declaration:

“1. In accordance with article 1 (3) of the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards, the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone declares that it will apply the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards made only in the Territory of another Contracting State.
2. In accordance with article 1 (3) of the Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards, the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone declares that it will apply the Convention on differences arising out of legal relationships, whether contractual or not, which are considered commercial under the Laws of Sierra Leone.
3. The Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards only applies in the Republic of Sierra Leone with respect to arbitration agreements concluded and arbitral awards rendered after the date of its accession to the Convention.”

"In acceding to this Convention, the Government of Sierra Leone hereby declares that it does not consider itself bound by article III in so far as that article applies to recruitment to and conditions of service in the Armed Forces or to jury service."

"The Government of Sierra Leone wishes to state with regard to article 17 (2) that Sierra Leone does not consider itself bound to grant to refugees the rights stipulated therein.
Further, with regard to article 17 as a whole, the Government of Sierra Leone wishes to state that it considers the article to be a recommendation only and not a binding obligation.
The Government of Sierra Leone wishes to state that it does not consider itself bound by the provisions of article 29, and it reserves the right to impose special taxes on aliens as provided for in the Constitution."
