Note: Both series shown above give population as of July 1. The N.S.O. estimates have been arrived at by applying a constant growth rate (geometric) of 3.1% per year to the result of the 1960 census. N.E.D.B.'s estimates were made by fitt:ing a curve to four points: the 1947 and 1960 census results, corrected for under-enumeration, and projections for 1965 and 1970 prepared by Halvor Gille and Thip Chalothorn (The Demographic Outlook of Thailand and Some Implications, 1963). The resulting growth rate is 3.4% per year for 1960-1965 and 3.3% per year for 1965-1970. For practical reasons the N.E.D.B. estimates are used in Bank reports.
