Promoting Women’s Economic Empowerment in the Energy Sector in Central Asia 2022-2028 Project (No. ExB 1102348)

Challenges are even greater in rural and mountainous areas, where limited energy access disproportionately affects women. They continue to bear most household responsibilities and rely on solid fuels for cooking and heating, exposing them to health risks and restricting economic and educational opportunities. Empowering women is not just a matter of equity but an imperative for accelerating progress toward climate and energy goals. Achieving a successful transition to clean energy, requires the active participation and leadership of women at all levels. Central Asia, rich in natural resources, holds immense potential for all renewable energy sources. Unlocking this potential can position the region as a global leader in the energy transition. However, realizing these ambitions depends on cultivating a skilled and gender inclusive workforce. Background Only 22% of the global energy workforce are women The project equips Central Asian women and girls to become change agents in the energy transition while supporting governments, companies and academia to fully harness women’s participation and leadership, leaving no one behind. Women’s active participation and leadership are essential to achieving energy security, reducing emissions, and accelerating a just and inclusive clean energy transition in the region. Yet, the energy sector remains one of the least gender-diverse industries, limiting innovation and growth. 1. 2. 4. 3.Central Asia Clean Energy Potential Key Figures 90 Energy Professionals mentored and 2 M.Sc clean energy scholarship editions 400 female students received training 100 women joined OSCE network 1,000 people received access to clean energy 6 countries: Central Asia and Afghanistan Budget: €3,327,750 Women can play an invaluable role across the energy value chain, particularly in Central Asia, where they are the primary managers and users of energy in households.
