It is the located in Jiangbei District, Shapingba District, Yuzhong District, Jiulongpo District and the Nan'an District. Chongqing is facing major pollution of its rivers, particularly the Jialing River, a principle source of potable water. Almost all of the municipal wastewater and a large proportion of industrial wastewater enter the river system without treatment, causing significant pollution within the city. Without the Component organic pollution levels will rise dramatically, further endangering the already precarious potable water supplies. In order to provide an outlet for the Drainage there and protect the water quality of the Yangtze and the Jialing River Basin, establishing the Component constitutes a task which brooks no delay. A~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ N RxpdWWflP , V I V E S 0 5 10 15 N An entire primary sewerage network (length of 78 km) comprising a series of interceptors (4 major branches) ranging in size from 1.5xl.5m to 3.5x3.5m, constructed either by cut-and-cover or by tunneling methods; --Branch A: From Zhongnutuo in Jiangbei district through Gailanxi to Tangjiatuo wastewater treatment plant along the left bank of Jialing River; --Branch B : from Yanggongqiao in Shapingba district through Chaotianmen to Chuqimen along the right bank of Jialing River; --Branch C: from Taohuaxi through Longfenxi to Chuqimen to meet with route b along left bank of Yangtze River. A pretreatment station will be built at Taipingmen, Wastewater treated at pretreatment station will flow to east and cross Yangtze River through pipe from Taipingmen to Haitangxi; --Branch D : along the right bank of Yangtze River to Haitangxi meeting with 3 RAP for the Wastewater Component of CUEP Chapter 1 Branches B and C and then to Wuduishi passing through a tunnel to Juiganshi WWTP. * The Tangjiatuo W7astewater Treatment Plant with an initial capacity of 300,000 cu.m/d and an associated 2200 mm outfall 2 km from the works to the outfall at Tongluo Gorge on the Yangtze River; * The Jiguanshi Wastewater Treatment Plant with an initial capacity of 600,000 cu.mld and an associated 4000 mm outfall 220 m long situated approximately 1 km from the works to the nearby Yangtze River; a Taipingmen Pretreatment Station: The Station is located upstream of the inverted siphon crossing the Yangtze River on the southern bank of the Peninsula area. Facilities include pumping station consisting of 6 pumps (4 -cu.m/s capacity); coarse screens and grit removal. The techno-economic feasibility study for the Component was jointly prepared by the Architecture Design and Research Institute of Chongqing University and the Shanghai Construction Design and Research Institute of Municipal Administration, and the report was submitted in March 1999. A summary of the Project Implementation Program is provided in Figure 2.
