C. 20433 TELEPHONE: EXECUTIVE 3-6360 (( April 28, 1967 Subject~ Consultative Group for Morocco Countries and international organizations interested in development assistance to Morocco met in Washington, D.C. on April 27 and 28 under the chairmanship of the World Bank. The following countries were represented: Belgium, Canada, France~ ·Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the 'United States. Representatives of the International Monetary Fund (DU') and of the United Nations Development Programme were present as well as an observer from Denmark. Th\'.:: meeting discussed a report on the current economic position and pros- pects of Morocco and a publication on the economic development of Morocco -- both ~ prepared by the World Bank -- ~n IMF report and a report by the Moroccan Government on its economic develo~ent policies. The members of the Group heard a statement by His Excellency Mamoun Tahiri, Minister of Finance, and held an extensive exchange of views with the Minister and his associates on Morocco's develo·pment problems and prospects. The meeting reached a consensus that Morocco's economy could usefully absorb increased assistance if provided on appropriate financial terms. The members present 'at the meeting agreed to establishing a Consultative Group for Morocco and tentatively decided that the Group would hold its next meeting in early 1968 . •
