Introduction The Socio-Economic Survey and preparation of Project Affected Persons Economic Rehabilitation Programme (PAPERP) under APIP-Ill SRS project was entrusted to Agricultural Finance Croporation Limited (AFC) by the I & CAD Department of GOAP. The study is aimed at coverfing the affected households under canal infrastructure below km 234.00 upto km 284.00 and A yacut. As regards the ayacut roads in the irrigation command of SRS project they were foruiod alonIg Ju o xistingr cart tracks by widoning thomr Tho acquisition of land and ilio Socio-ECoIolnic Survoy of the ffettc(ed poploe undor uyacut roads is therefore confined to narrow belt on either side of the existing roads and cart tracks. The land acquired for ayacut roads in the entire command of Kakatiya canal from km 0 to km 141 upto Lower Manair and from km 141 to km 284 beyond Manair; is situated in Karimnagar and Warangal Districts. A yacut roads are laid by dividing them into 36 packages. The packages 1 to 29 are situated above Lower Manair Dam and 30 to 36 are beyond Manair; packages 11, 16 and 22 are not included in APIP III and therefore the totalpackages are 33. Rest of the packages are almost completed by taking advance possession of the land. Out of the 33 packages, 7 packages are lying between 234 and 284 covering 63 villages and involving 327acres of land acquisition. Balance 26packages above km 234 spread over 765 villages with 997acres of acqired land.2. Work Load: The total work load for conducting the Socio-Economic surveys covering all the affected families under ayacut roads (besides 8208 people covered in the canalinfrastructure out of 10,216identified as affected) involves the following number of total households.  2 WORK LOAD SLi Details From km Km 234 to Total No. 0/0 to 234 284 a. Sample Surveys /n view of heavy magnitude of work, extensive effort, time and substantital costinvolved in covering asmanyas 9000households spread over 228 villages, as seen above it is proposed to conduct sample surveys to study the trend of effect of land acquisition and to assess whether there is justifiable need to conduct socio-economic survey covering all the affected households . Therefore sample surveys were conducted between kms 234 to km 284 covering 16 villages involving 76. 18 acres of land acquired for which adequate data of the affected people are readily available. 4. Salent Features of Sample Survey Salient features/findings of the Sample Surveys (Appendix-I) are as follows a. Number of villages where census surveys are 16 conducted b. Area of land acquired (acres) 76. 18 c. Number of people affected 516 d. Total extent of holdings of these affected people 31,296.72 (acres)  e. Number identified as PAPs as per definition 33 based on census surveys f. Number of PAPs for detailed S.E. Survey (2 29 people- declared they have not lost any land and (5.62% of 516 two dre 110t availdble) affected) g. Per family land loss (acres) 0.13 .~~~~~~ i -' ^ i. .. S. Conclusion It could be seeli from the above that the PAPs eligible for oconomic rehabilitation programme (ERP) assistance are only 33 (5. 62 porce,t) out of thl total 516 families surveyed. For covering such a low percentage(5. 16%) of the remaining PAPs by detailed surveys who could be around 475 spread over 212 villages involving 1248 acres of land acquisition. The census survey for all the affected households (8968-516 = 8452) has to be carried out. In view of the above, the Consultants (AFC) feel that detailed socio-economic survey of such .magnitude of the affected households may not be required since the PAPs eligible for ERP are estimated to be numerically few and such households could be assisted as and when they are identified during the course of implementation of th ft is therefore proposed to project the findings of the detailed Socio- Economic surveys conducted on 516 number of people affected to the remaining uncovered number and make budget provision on indicative basis, in addition to detailed budget provisions for those covered in socio-economic surveys. (Appendix - II).
