DATE: March 15, 1993 WORLD BANK GROUP SUPPORT: World Bank loan: $129.5 million. The World Bank loan is for 17 years, including five years of grace, with a variable interest rate, currently 7.43 percent, linked to the cost of the Bank's borrowings. It also carries an annual commitment charge of 0.25 percent on the undisbursed balance. TOTAL COST: $258.4 million OTHER PROPOSED FINANCING: Internal cash generation, $128.9 million IMPLEMENTING AGENCY: Bursa Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (BUSKI) ESTIMATED COMPLETION DATE: 2001 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The objectives of the Bursa Water and Sanitation Project are to (a) improve environmental conditions and reduce health hazards in Greater Bursa; (b) to improve the management of the municipal water supply, sewer services, and of domestic, industrial and clinical solid waste services; (c) meet the demand for water, sewerage, flood protection and solid waste services; (d) increase the efficiency of water usage; and (e) implement cost recovery policies. The project has two parts.-The water supply, sewerage and storm water part will renovate existing springs, rehabilitate existing distribution networks, increase the production of well fields, construct a 30,000 cubic meter distribution reservoir, construct main pipelines, extend sewage and storm water collection networks, treat and dispose of sewage, and provide technical assistance to BUSKI in training, billing, investment, information management and tariff design. The solid waste part will rehabili- tate the existing dump site, develop a new landfill site, construct a 600 ton/day waste transfer station, provide collection vehicles, and provide technical assistance in construction design and supervision and institutional development for the Metropolitan Municipality.
