Visit to Mexico January 30, 1958 The participants and staff of the Economic· Development Institute will pay a week's visit to Mexico, at the invitation of the Mexican Government, leaving Washington on January 31 and returning February 8. This will be the first field trip the Insti·tute ha\S . made outside the United States. The group Will visit industrial, agi":iScultural and financial institutions and various development projects and discuss problems of.administration and management With responsible officials. The Institute was established by the World Ba.nk in 1955 to improve tht: management of economic affairs in less developed countries by assembling groups of senior officials from those countries ~d studying ,n.th them the practical problems that a.rise in preparing and carrying through development programs and projects. The group going to Mexico will be led by Michael L. Hoffman, Director of the~Institute, and will consist of five members of the staff and the 22 participants in the cu~ent course of the Institute. On Saturday, February 1, the group will meet at the Center of' Monetary Studies in Mexico City to hea.r an address by Manuel Bravo of the Bank of ;, Mexico·, on the 'recent economic history of Mexico. On Monday, February 3, the r;. . ._ group Will visit the management of the Bank of Mexico and the Nacional Financiera, and will attend a receptit,n given by the Minister of Finance in ••• the evening. Op. Tuesday, they will go to Irolo, a. newly developed industrial i ; ' ., -" area about 50 miles outside Mexico City. On Wednesday they will have a panel discussion with officials o~ the Investment Comnittee in Mexico City. On  0 . 1 - 2 - • Thursday, the entire group will go to Guadalajara,~where they will visit the he&dquarters of the Pacifico Railroad, which has under way an extensive rehabilitation and improvement program. The group will then split up with half of them taking a.n overnight trip on the Pacifico Railroad to Mazatlan.; from there they will :f'ly to Guaymas to view irrigation projects in the area. On Saturday, this group will visit Manclova, north of Monterrey, which is also a newly developed industrial area. From there they will go to San Az:tonio to fly to Washington.
