The National Thermal Power Corporation Limited will implement the Second Singrauli Thermal Power Project, which is part of its ongoing power development efforts in the state of Uttar Pradesh. • The credit will enable India to construct four coal-fired power generating units (two of 200 MW and two of 500 MW capacities) with ancillary equipment and 2,000 kilometers of 400 kV transmission facilities. The project, with a total cost of $914.3 mill ion, also provides for engineering consultant services for the 500 MW units. When completed, the Singrauli station, which is the first centrally owned, large-scale thermal power development owned by the Government of India, will have a total capacity of 2,000 MW. It is regarded as the least cost and most expedient way to provide much needed power to the northern part of India. The IDA credit of $300 million will be supplemented by $100 mill ion from Kreditanstalt fur Wiederaufbau of the Federal Republic of Germany, and $514 million from the Government of lnrlia. PROCUREMENT: All items financed by IDA credit will be bought through international competitive bidding in accordance with IDA guidelines. CONSULTANTS: Consultants will assist in designing, preparing, and evaluating bids for the two 500 MW units, as well as reviewing the NTPC's project management and information system.
