D.C. 20433, U.S.A. • Telephone: (202) 393-6360 IDA NEWS RELEASE NO. 78/36 FEBRUARY 2, 1978 $8.2 MILLION FOR URBAN DEVELOPMENT IN UPPER VOLTA The International Development Association (IDA), an affifiate of the World Bank, has approved an $8.2 million credit for an urban development project in Upper Volta. The living conditions of more than 10,500 households (approximately 86,000 people) will be improved through the provision of essential infra- 5tr~cture, regulation of occupancy rights and the supply of credit for housing construction or improvement. Over 106,000 people in both Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso will benefit from the upgrading, sites and services and water supply distribution components of the project. • The urban development project which aims at providing low-cost services to low-income households in Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso, will alsq provide technical assistance to the municipalities of these cities. The project is scheduled to be completed in 1981 at a total estimated cost of $10. 84 mi 11 ion. The $8.2 mill ion IDA·credit to Upper Volta will be for a SO-year term, including 10 years of grace. It will be interest free but will carry a service charge of 3/4 of 1% per annum to cover IDA's administrative expenses. PROCUREMENT: All contracts over $50,000 for the procurement of equipment~ vehicles, and building materials as well as the channeling of the Zogona Gulley will be through international competitive bidding in accordance with IDA guidelines. For smaller contracts local preference of ].5% applies. Civil works contracts will be awarded through local competitive bidding, advertised locally with procedures acceptable to IDA.
