Des~gned.mainly to increase educational opportunities in rural areas and to upgrade the qualifications o:r primary school teachers, the project includes site development, construction, turniture and equipnent :ror: 1) 65 new rural community learning centers, 2) 10 new u.rban community learning centers, 3) extension of one and construction Of t~"O new p r ~ teacher-training colleges, and 4) technical • . assistance to underta.lte special studies and to help develop new curricula. The proJect will help the Government in its determination to correct some of the deficiencies in the education sector such as inequities in educational opportunities, impractical curricula, lack ot qualified teachers, inadequate educational supe.rvision and lack ot long-range planning. PRoetnlEMENT: Contracts tor procurement ot furniture and equipment and bulk purchases ot material which exceed $15,000 will be awarded on the basis of international competitive bidding. Civil works contracts will be awarded on the basis ot competitive bidding advertised locally. COBSULTA:u'S: Consultants will be appointed for the design and supervision ot civil works.
