Grant Development Objective(s) and Expected Key Performance Indicators Grant Development Objectives (GDO): The main development objective of the proposed grant is to help prevent and control the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in the East Asia and Pacific Region by building the capacity of local governments and communities to prevent the spread of the disease to poor populations who would be far less well equipped than urban areas to cope with outbreaks. This would be accomplished through design, implementation and evaluation of SARS health promotion programs, and improvement in the surveillance system to monitor SARS epidemic and behavior trends. Expected Key Performance Indicators: (Maximum five indicators) Completion and implementation of health promotion plans. Completion and implementation of training plans. Public knowledge about SARS prevention and treatment. Key public health and community-based staff trained in epidemiological techniques. Public health procedures manual produced for public health surveillance. III.
