Country and Sector Background The rapid growth of the Chinese economy has overloaded its transport network, which is struggling to keep pace. In varying degrees the infrastructure of all transport modes has been modernized and upgraded, but the tonnages to be moved have grown so fast and so broadly that there have been long time lags before new capacity could be put into operation.
