SUMMARY The Lake Victoria Environmental Management Project (LVEMP) was launched in 1997 involving cooperative management and complementary activities among Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. Tanzania is now applying for a second supplemental IDA credit to continue mutually agreed upon activities under the LVEMP. This proposed supplemental financing is for activities included within the original scope of the LVEMP and the Environmental Analysis undertaken for it in 1995 (see Section II below). Environmental management of the LVEMP to date has followed the recommendations of the 1995 analysis, and no significant adverse environmental effects have been identified from LVEMP activities in Tanzania (see Section III below). As a result, it was determined that the 1995 Environmental Analysis remains relevant and applicable, and would be re-disclosed for the information of interested LVEMP stakeholders as part of the process of considering approval of the second supplemental IDA credit to Tanzania under the LVEMP. The 1995 analysis is appended to this environmental statement. II. FINDINGS OF THE 1995 ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS The 1995 Environmental Analysis identified four issues of concern with potential LVEMP activities, and outlined precautions and mitigation measures for each as well as an overall monitoring and evaluation regime.
