SMALLPOX United K ingdom. — A nurse who had contact with two of the smallpox cases previously reported1 has been notified as a case of variola sine eruptione. The nurse who had been revaccinated had been under surveillance subsequent to confirmation o f the diagnosis of the two cases with which she was in contact and she herself was isolated on 14 April. In view of her isolation and the fact that her contacts were already under surveillance, it is considered that the epidemiological situation has not changed. The period prior to declaration o f freedom of infection will however be prolonged. An 18-month-old Indian child who arrived in London on 20 April was reported as a suspected case of smallpox. On the basis of subsequent electron microscopy and laboratory tests the diagnosis was considered n o t to be smallpox. 1Sec No. 14, p. 161.

VARIOLE R oyaume -U n i .

1 Voir N" 14, p. 161.
