incidence has been reported on 4 March in Austria (outbreak in Vienna, peak in mid-February, virus A/Texas/1/77 (H3N2), on 24 February in Berlin (West) (A/Texas/1/77 (H3N2) and A/USSR/ 90/77 (H1N1)), on 10 March in all parts o f the Federal Republic of Germany (A/Texas/1/77 in all regions, A/USSR/90/77 in LowerSaxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Rheinland-Pfalz, B in LowerSaxony and Baden-Württemberg) and on 3 March in all regions of Hungary (peak around 10 February, A/USSR/90/77 and strains A (H3N2) similar to A/Victoria/3/75 o r A/Texas/1/77). Finally, the United States o f America have indicated that, during the week ended 11 March, the “ mortality from pneumonia and influenza in 121 US cities” was below the epidemic threshold in the whole of the country and in each region separately, after having been above this threshold during nine weeks for the whole of the country (A/ USSR/90/77 and strain A (H3N2), mostly A/Texas/1/77). F inland (11 March 1978). — 6 Sporadic influenza cases still occur in Finland and a limited outbreak was reported in a military garrison. Two strains o f influenza H1N1 were isolated. F r a n c e (17 March 1978). — 7 Sporadic cases continue to be reported, most of them caused by A/Texas/1/77 (H3N2), whereas one strain of A/Victoria/3/75 (H3N2) has still been isolated. Eight strains of influenza virus B w ere^olated during this period.
