CRITERIA USED IN COMPILING THE INFECTED AREA LIST Based on the International Health Regulations (1969) the following criteria are used in compiling and maintaining the infected area list (only official govern­ mental information is used) I An area is entend in the list on receipt of information of (i) a declaration of infection under Article 3, (u) the first case of plague, cholera, yellow fever or smallpox that is neuher an imported case nor a transferred case, (ui) plague infection among domestic or wild rodents, (iv) activity of yellow-fever virus m vertebrates other than man using one of the following criteria (a) the discovery of the specific lesions of yellow fever in the liver of vertebrates indigenous to the area, or (b) the isolation of yellow-fever virus from any indigenous vertebrates. IL An area is deleted from the list on receipt of information as follows (1) if the area was declared infected (Article 3), it is deleted from the list on receipt of a declaration under Article 7 that the area is free from infection If information is available which indicates that the area has not been free trom infection daring the time intervals stated in Article 7, the Article 7 declaration is nol published, the area remains on the list and the health administration concerned is queried as to the true situation, (u) if the area entered the list for reasons other than a declaration under Article 3 (see L (u) to (iv) above), u is deleted from the list on receipt of negative weekly reports for the time intervals stated in Article 7 In the absence of such reports, the area is deleted from the list on receipt of a notification of freedom from infection (Article 7) when at least the Hire period given in Article 7 has elapsed since ihe last notified case

CRITÈRES APPLIQUÉS POUR LA COMPILATION DE LA LISTE DES ZONES INFECTÉES Conformément au Réglement sanitaire international (19691 les entêtes sui­ vants sont appliques pour 1a compilation et la mise h jour de la liste des zona infectées (seules sont utilisées l a informations officielles émanant des gouverne­ ments) I Une zone eu portée sur la liste lorsque l ’Organisation a reçu, (0 une déclaration d'infection, aux terms de l'article 3, (u) nouficatioa d’un premier cas de peste, de choléra, de fièvre jaune ou de variole qui n'est ni un cas importé tu un cas transféré, (ni) notification de la présence de la pâte chez l a rongeurs domestiqua « chez les rongeurs sauvages, (iv) notification de 1’icuvué du virus aman) chez des vertébrés entres qui l'homme, déterminée par l'application de l'un des entires suivants. a) decouverte des lésions spécifiques de la fièvre jaune dans le foie de vertébrée de lu faune indigene du territoire ou de 1* zone, ou b) isolement du virus de 1a fièvre jsuus chez n'importe quel vertébré de la faune indigene. U L a zona sont radiées de la liste dans l e conditions suivante t) si 1a zone a été déclarée infectée (article 3), elle est radiée de lt liste lors­ que 1 Organisation reçoit une aouftexuon fane en application de l'artiile 7, suivant laquelle lu zone e t indemne d'infection Si l'on dispose de ren­ seignements indiquant que lu zone n'a pas été indemne d'infection pen­ dant une pénode correspondant a la durée indiquée dans l'article 7, la notification prevue pur l'article 7 n'est pas publiée, la zone reste sur la liste et l’administration sanitaire intéressée a l priée de donner d a éclair­ cissements quant a 1a situation exacte, u) si la zone a été portée sur la Iule pour d a raisons autres quo la réception da la notification prévue par l'anulc 3 (voir L u) a iv) a-dessus), aile est radiée de la liste lorsque des rapports hebdomadaires négatifs ont été reçus pendant une pénode dont lu duree est indiquée u l'article 7 A défaut de tels rapports, la zone est radia de la liste lorsque, an terme de la pénode indiquée a l'article 7, l'Organisation rocou une notification d'exempuon d'infection (arucle 7) _____________________
