Influenza Chile (25 May 2001).1 A local outbreak of influenza A was detected in Valparaiso. One virus was identified as being of A/Moscow/10/99(H3N2)-like strain. The first influenza A case in Santiago was also reported. Mauritius (25 May 2001). The number of clinical samples concerning respiratory infections increased slightly during the third week of May. Influenza B virus was isolated from a sample taken from a 7-year-old boy hospitalized for respiratory infection. This is the first influenza B virus isolate for the season. Other reports. During the third week of May, influenza was reported to be sporadic in Argentina,2 France,3 Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China,2 Latvia 3 and Norway.2 Influenza A and B viruses were isolated or detected by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Grippe Chili (25 mai 2001).1 Une flambée locale de grippe A a été dépistée à Valparaiso. Un virus a été identifié comme étant de souche analogue à A/Moscow/10/99(H3N2).Un premier cas de grippe A a également été signalé à Santiago. Maurice (25 mai 2001). Le nombre déchantillons cliniques concernant les infections respiratoires a légèrement augmenté au cours de la troisième semaine de mai. On isolé un virus grippal de type B dans un échantillon prélevé sur un jeune garçon de 7 ans, hospitalisé pour une infection respiratoire. Il sagit du premier isolement de virus grippal de type B de la saison. Autres rapports. Au cours de la troisième semaine de mai, on a signalé une activité grippale sporadique en Argentine,2 en France,3 à Hong Kong, Région administrative spéciale de la Chine,2 en Lettonie3 et en Norvège.2 Des virus grippaux A et B ont été isolés ou détectés par PCR (polymerase chain reaction), cest-à-dire par amplification de lADN.
