Africa’s first COVID-19 case was recorded in Egypt on 14 February. Since then a total of 52 countries have reported cases. • In April 2020, a total of 134 053 COVID-19 cases and 4 458 related deaths (CFR 3.2%) were reported from 22 countries of the EM region. • From 29 January 2020 to 30 April 2020, a total of 188 130 confirmed COVID-19 cases including 7 574 related deaths (CFR: 4%) were reported from 22 countries. There was a 45% increase in reported cases as compared to the previous month (53346) • In the region, 11 of the 22 countries reported an increase in COVID-19 cases and deaths in the last one months. • During the April 2020 a total of 4458 deaths have been reported from the region and Islamic Republic of Iran reported the highest number of deaths (3 130) followed by Egypt (346) and Pakistan (336) . The overall Case Fatality Ratio in the region is 4%. • Since the beginning of pandemic, a total of 7 574 deaths have been reported from the region and Islamic Republic of Iran reported the highest number of deaths (6 028) followed by Egypt (392) and Pakistan (361). The overall Case Fatality Ratio in the region is 4%. • The overall number of COVID-19 tests performed this month was 2 437 901 and 5.5% were positive.
