Q OUTBREAK NEWS Cholera, Madagascar (update). From 1 December 1999 until 3 March 2000, a total of 12 481 cases of cholera with 736 deaths was reported, compared with a total of 8 665 cases with 490 deaths reported during the period March to November 1999. The WHO Regional Office for Africa has participated in various activities in response to the cholera situation and took part in the initial investigation of the outbreak in the northern part of the country in March 1999. WHO has continued to provide technical support with other partners and is standing by to provide further assistance immediately if requested by the health authorities of Madagascar. Ⅲ

Du 1er décembre 1999 au 3 mars 2000, on a signalé un total de 12 481 cas de choléra dont 736 décès, comparé à un total de 8 665 cas dont 490 décès entre mars et novembre 1999. Le bureau régional OMS de lAfrique a participé aux diverses activités dintervention face à la situation et a pris part aux enquêtes initiales suite à la flambée dans le nord du pays en mars 1999. LOMS continue de fournir un soutien technique avec dautres partenaires et se tient prête à fournir une assistance supplémentaire immédiatement si les autorités sanitaires de Madagascar le souhaitent.
