LEPROSY United Kingdom. - Since 1979 the Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre has taken over responsibility for the Central Register of Leprosy Cases from the Department of Health and Social Services. Thirty-six cases have been notified dunng the last 2 years, 17 in 1984 and 19 m 1985, and 37 cases have been removed from the Central Register, leaving 340 persons still registered (Table 1). Of these, 235 were classified as lepromatous (LL), bor derline lepromatous (BL) or borderline (BB) cases, that is persons requiring prolonged maintenance therapy and surveillance.

de lèpre, qui incombait jusque là au Department o f Health and Social Services, a été confiée au Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre. Trente-six cas ont été signalés ces 2 dernières années, 17 en 1984 et 19 en 1985; 37 cas ont été rayés du Registre central, laissant 340 cas inscrits (Tableau 1). Sur ce nombre, 236 cas étaient classés comme étant du type lépromateux (LL), borderline-lépromateux (BL) ou borderline (BB) et nécessitaient donc un traitement d’entretien et une surveillance prolongés.

Analysis of leprosy notifications in England and Wales since 1951 by country of infection shows that the trends in incidence reflect immigration from the Indian subcontinent and the Carib bean and the return of persons who had worked abroad. No indi genous infections have occurred.
L’analyse des cas de lèpre notifiés en Angleterre et au pays de Galles depuis 1951 par pays d’infection montre que l’évolution du taux d’incadence reflète l’immigration en provenance du sous-continent indien et des Caraïbes et le retour des personnes parties travailler à l’étranger. On n’a relevé aucun cas d’infection indigène.
