YELLOW FEVER Outbreak on Colombia-Venezuela Border Colombia . — On 13 July, Colombia notified the WHO/Pan American Health Organization of a yellow fever outbreak in the Department of N orth Santander near the border with Venezuela. The diagnosis has been confirmed by histopathological studies of fatalities. A yellow fever vaccination campaign and emergency control measures for Aedes aegypti have been initiated. Un confirmed reports of cases have occurred in Tibu, Sardinata, Convenciôn, Ocana, and Cùcuta. Editorial N ote: It is recommended that persons six months of age or older travelling to the affected areas should receive yellow fever vaccine unless medically contraindicated. This vaccine is available only at approved yellow fever vaccination centres, the locations of which can be obtained from state and local health departments. Yellow fever immunity following administration of licensed vaccine has been shown to persist for more than ten years.
FIÈVRE JAUNE Poussée épidémique à la frontière de la Colombie et du Venezuela C olombie. — Le 13 juillet, la Colombie a notifié à l’OMS/Organisation panaméricaine de la Santé, une poussée de fièvre jaune dans le Département de Santander Nord, près de la frontière véné zuélienne. Le diagnostic a été confirmé au moyen d ’études histo pathologiques après décès. Une campagne de vaccination anti amarile, ainsi que des mesures d ’urgence de lutte contre Aedes aegypti ont été mises en place. Selon des informations non confir mées, des cas se seraient produits à Tibu, Sardinata, Convenciôn, Ocana et Cùcuta.
N ote de la R édaction : On recommande à toutes les personnes âgées de plus de six mois qui se rendent dans les secteurs affectés de se faire vacciner contre la fièvre jaune, sauf contre-indication médicale. Le vaccin n ’est disponible que dans les centres agréés de vaccination antiamarile, dont on pourra obtenir localement les adresses auprès des autorités sanitaires. On a pu montrer que l’im munité conférée par l’administration d ’un vaccin antiamaril agréé durait plus de dix ans.
