It was conflrued that it rra6 a potent concacc lnsectlctde, of low man'nallan and avLan toxlclty, sarrantlng larger ecale river Ertal under condltlons of hlgh rlver dlscharge. Bloa1let,hrln at, a dosage of 0.01.25 ng/l performed poorly ln the rlver trlal, glvlog only about, 952 reducElon of larvae ac the polnc of appllcaElon. Thls compound would noEbe scudled furEher. 27. COMPARATIVE IMPACT OF POTENTIALLY OPERATIONAL LARVICIDES ON THE NON-TARGET FAUNA 30. Tescs had been conducted on a new fornulatlon of bloresmethrln todeceralne lts possible lmpacE on Ehe non-target aquatlc entomofauna. The effeccs of pyraclofos on flsh were also etudled ln the laboratory t,o compare lE wlth carbosulfan and permethrln. 31. In guEter EesEs bioresmethrln lnduced overall detachnent of the enEomofauna which $ras couparable to that noted with chlorphoxlm. However, asfleld condltlons l{ere noE ldeal at the tlme of the test,e, ot,her studles were requlred t,o conflrm these resulte. In a spot rtver trlal at, lor{ dlscharge rat,e' bloresnethrtn had an lmpacE on shrtmpe. The latter srere paralyzed t,o varylng degrees but the effect was of short duracton. Crabs and flsh showed no vlslble slgns of lopacr. 32. In gutcer t,esEs tlth pyraclofoe Ehe overall detachmenE of tnsecEs was less chan chaE observed wlth chlorphoxlm, even at slx t,lnes the operaclonal doeage(less chan 402 det,achnent for pyraclofos compared to 50-8OZ for chlorphoxlnl. However, the lnpact of pyraclofos was great,er Ehan that observed wlth Eemephos. 33. The hterarchy ln general toxlclty of these compounds was, Eenephos (pyraclofos ( chlorphoxln ( bloresnethrln ( pernethrln. No such effecto were noted wlt,h carbosulfan. However, t,he result,s obcained under dry seaeon condlclons ln a snall rlver (dlscharge 1.8-4 n3/s) should be constdered as those of an experlmental toxiclty test as Ehey could not be ext,rapolaEed to operatlonal condltlons; large rlvers wlch hlgh dlscharge rat,es under wet, seaaon condltlons as required by the Ecologlcal Groupfor use of Ehese compounds.
