SALM O NELLA TYPHIM URIU M FOODBORNE OUTBREAK F ederal R e pu b l ic of G ermany . — Information was received on 25 February that an outbreak of foodbome disease had occurred among passengers from at least two flights Las Palmas-Hanover and one flight Hanover-Las Palmas. There have been more than 200 cases and Salmonella typhimurium has been isolated from a number of these. F in l a n d . — On Friday 20 February, some 200 Finnish tourists travelling from Las Palmas to Helsinki were infected with S. typhi­ murium. Several patients were seriously ill. It is believed that, on the return flight in the same plane, a large number o f passengers were similarly infected, some seriously.

Il y a eu plus de 200 cas et Salmonella typhimurium a été isolée chez un certain nombre de malades. F inlande . — Le vendredi 20 février, environ 200 touristes finlandais rentrant de Las Palmas à Helsinki ont été infectés par S. typhimurium. Plusieurs d ’entre eux étaient sérieusement atteints. On croit savoir qu’un grand nombre d ’autres passagers du même avion ont été pareillement infectés, dont quelques-uns assez gra­ vement. D ’autres touristes rentrant à Helsinki le 21 février étaient aussi victimes d ’une infection, mais la nature de l’agent étiologique n’a pas été confirmée. N ote de la R édaction : En accord avec les autorités sanitaires espagnoles, l’Organisation collabore à une enquête épidémiologique sur cette poussée.

Other tourists returning to Helsinki on 21 February were also infected but the aetiological agent has not been confirmed. E d itor ia l N o t e : In agreement with the Spanish Health Adminis­ tration, the Organization is collaborating in an epidemiological investigation of the outbreak.
