Fifth meeting, 7 September 1970 WPR/RC21.Rll TRAINING OF NATIONAL HEALTH PERSONNEL The Regional Committee, Having considered resolution WHA2S.35 of the TWenty-third World Health Assembly and resolution WPR/RC20.,R9 of the twentieth session of the Regional Committee, 1. NOTES that the Director-General has been asked: (i) to present to the World Health Assembly a ,report on any concrete measure that the 'World Health Organization might take to assist further the training o'f national health personnel at all levels, including the methodology employed in such training; (ii) to urge Members to formulate a minimum standard of curriculum for trainingprogrammesO'fhealth-personnel taking into consideration the needs of-the Region. 2. NOTES FURTHER the difficulties -which Members -h~veencountered in collecting information on thetraininS-of natio¥l health personnel. 3. BELIEVES that it is difficult for health d-epat'itlllents to collate and record data and t'o makepra:j-ed:i'olls on ,health manpower unless there is a planning' machineryto-undert,a-keehis work routinely. 4. '. ,-_._--- (iii) to assist Members upon request in this task by providing advisory or consultant services to them.-"- WPR/RC2l.R12 Fifth meeting 7 7 September 1970 THE ROLE OF THE HEALTH ADHINISTRATION IN THE PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION The Regional Committee, Having considered the report submitted by the Regional Director on the role of the health administration in the 1 prevention and control of environmental pollution, 1. ENDORSES the suggestion of the Regional Director: (i) that consultants should be recruited in 1971 to make a general survey of environmental conditions in the Region, to define the nature and extent of po11utional problems and the order of priority in which governments should classify them; (ii) that provision should be made in the 1973 programme and budget estimates for a regional seminar to discuss and publicize the findings of the WHO consultants; (iii) on the basis of the conclusions of the seminar and of guidelines at present under preparation in the Regional Office, that a preliminary regional programme in environ- mental pollution should be developed in 1974 or 1975 with the assistance of a team of consultants; 2. RECO~MENDS that the general survey of environmental conditions in the Region also identify those problems which may require close co-ordination with other international organizations; 3. AUTHORIZES the Regional. Director to advance the time frame of the above steps to an earlier period than those suggested as circumstances so warrant having in mind the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment scheduled in June 1972 in Stockholm; ---------,- --- --- ·Document WPR/RC2l/8.
