Expanded Programme on Im m unization Immunization schedules in the WHO European Region, 1995 -In order to gain a better understanding o£ the immuniza tion programmes in the Region, die W HO Regional Office for Europe sent a detailed questionnaire to all immuniza tion managers in the Member States asking for the struc ture of the programme, vaccine distribution system, immunization schedules, plans for introduction of new vaccines and surveillance of target diseases. This analysis will be published by the W HO Regional Office for Europe in the near future. Immunization schedules used in individual countries are presented below. Despite some similarities they vary from one country to another (Tables 1 and 2). A common feature is that they are comprehensive and complex. Immunization policies are based on regulations that also vary according to country and to antigen (Table 3). Generally speaking, France and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe have a system of compulsory immuni zations governed by legislation. In the other countries of the Region, the system is based on recommendations from national health authorities, acting on advice of their expert committees. However, the mode of application of immuni zation schedules is currently changing: compulsory immu nization tends to give way to a consideration of the impor tance of health education and of the need to inform people and persuade them of the benefits of immunization.
Programme élargi de vaccination Cojendriejs de vaccination dans la Région européenne defOMS, 1995 ~ Afin de mieux comprendre les programmes de vaccination dans la Région, le Bureau régional OMS de l’Europe a envoyé un ques tionnaire détaillé à tous les responsables de la vaccination dans les Etats Membres pour connaître la structure du programme, le système de distribution des vaccins, les calendriers de vaccination, les plans relatifs à l’introduction de nouveaux vaccins et à la surveillance des maladies cibles.. Cette analyse sera publiée par le Bureau régional OMS de l’Europe dans un proche avenir. Les calendriers de vaccination utilisés dans les divers pays sont présentés ci-après. Malgré certaines similitudes, ils varient d’un pays “ à l’autre {Tableau. '1 et 2). Ils ont en commun le fait d’être détaillés et complexes. Les politiques en matière de vaccination sont fondées surides réglementations qui varient également selon les pays et les antigè nes {Tableau 3). En général, la France et les pays d ’Europe centra le et orientale ont un système de vaccination obligatoire régi par la législation. Dans d’autres pays de la Région, le système est bas&sur les m n n f n m a n H a r i n n s é m a n a n t des autorités s a n i t a i r e s t i a r i f f r i j t l e s , agissant en fonction des conseils qui leur sont prodigués par leurs comiiés d ’experts. Toutefois, le mode d ’application des calen driers de vaccination est en train de changer: la vaccination obliga toire tend à céder la place à la prise de conscience qui s’est frite concernant l’importance de l’éducation sanitaire et à la nécessité d’informer les gens et de les convaincre des avantages de la vacci nation.
