Nomination of a Member State to the Joint Coordinating Board of the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Disease 1. Composition of the Joint Coordinating Board of the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases 1. The Joint Coordinating Board of the UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) consists of 28 members drawn from among the cooperating parties as follows: • • twelve government representatives selected by contributors to the resources of the Special Programme; six government representatives selected by WHO regional committees from among those countries directly affected by the diseases dealt with by the Special Programme, or from among those providing technical or scientific support to the Special Programme; six members designated by the Joint Coordinating Board itself from among the remaining cooperating parties; the four agencies that comprise the Standing Committee (UNICEF, UNDP, World Bank and WHO).

2. Members of the Joint Coordinating Board (JCB) serve for a period of four years and may be reappointed. 3. From the Eastern Mediterranean Region, Djibouti (under paragraph 2.2.2 of the Memorandum of Understanding: governments selected by WHO regional committees) and Egypt (under paragraph 2.2.3 of the Memorandum of Understanding: governments selected by the JCB itself) are currently members of the Board. The term of office of Egypt will expire on 31 December 2014. 4. The Regional Office invited Member States to apply to vacancies that exist under paragraph 2.2.3 of the Memorandum of Understanding (members selected by the JCB itself). From the Region, the Governments of Egypt and Islamic Republic of Iran applied for selection to the JCB membership from 2015. Neither Member State was selected under this paragraph. 2. Observer status on the Joint Coordinating Board 5. Other cooperating parties may, on request, be represented as observers, upon approval by the JCB. Member States of the Eastern Mediterranean Region who have observer status are: Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic and United Arab Emirates.

7. As of 1 January 2015, there will be one vacancy from the Eastern Mediterranean Region to replace Djibouti, whose term of office will end on 31 December 2014. This vacancy exists under paragraph 2.2.2 of the Memorandum of Understanding (Members selected by the WHO regional committees). The Regional Office invited the Member States to apply for this vacancy. The following Member State applied: • Afghanistan

8. The Regional Committee is requested to nominate one Member State to serve on the Joint Coordinating Board for a four-year period, 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2018.

Composition du Conseil conjoint de coordination du Programme spécial de recherche et de formation concernant les maladies tropicales 1. Le Conseil conjoint de coordination du Programme spécial UNICEF/PNUD/Banque mondiale/OMS de recherche et de formation concernant les maladies tropicales (TDR) comprend 28 membres choisis parmi les Parties coopérantes comme suit : • • Douze représentants de gouvernements choisis par les contributeurs aux ressources du Programme spécial ; Six représentants de gouvernements choisis par les comités régionaux de l’OMS parmi les pays directement touchés par les maladies couvertes par le Programme spécial ou les pays fournissant un soutien technique ou scientifique au Programme spécial ; Six membres choisis par le Conseil conjoint de coordination lui-même, parmi les Parties coopérantes restantes ; Les quatre institutions qui constituent le Comité permanent (UNICEF, PNUD, Banque mondiale et OMS).

2. Les membres du Conseil conjoint de coordination sont nommés pour une période de quatre ans et leur mandat est renouvelable. 3. Dans la Région de la Méditerranée orientale, Djibouti (au titre du paragraphe 2.2.2 du Protocole d’accord : gouvernements choisis par les Comités régionaux de l’OMS) et l’Égypte (au titre du paragraphe 2.2.3 du Protocole d’accord : membres choisis par le Conseil conjoint de coordination luimême), sont actuellement membres du Conseil conjoint de coordination. Le mandat de l’Égypte expirera le 31 décembre 2014. 4. Le Bureau régional a invité les États Membres à poser leur candidature pour les postes vacants qui existent au titre du paragraphe 2.2.3 du Protocole d’accord (membres choisis par le Conseil conjoint de coordination lui-même). Pour la Région, les gouvernements de l’Égypte et de la République islamique d’Iran ont posé leur candidature pour être choisis comme membre du Conseil de coordination conjoint à compter de 2015. Aucun des deux États Membres n’a été choisi au titre de ce paragraphe. 2. Statut d’observateur au Conseil conjoint de coordination 5. Les autres Parties coopérantes peuvent, sur leur demande et avec l’autorisation du Conseil conjoint de coordination, être représentées en qualité d’observateurs. Les États Membres de la Région de la Méditerranée orientale qui ont le statut d’observateur sont les suivants : l'Arabie saoudite, les Émirats arabes unis, la République islamique d’Iran, l’Iraq, la Jordanie, le Koweït, la Libye, Oman, la République arabe syrienne et le Soudan.

Ce poste vacant existe au titre des dispositions du paragraphe 2.2.2 du Protocole d’accord (Membres choisis par les Comités régionaux de l’OMS).
