STATEMENTBYDRSUNPARANJOTHY REPRESENTATIVE, INTERNATIONAL PLANNED PARENTHOOD FEDERA TION (IPPF) Mr. Chairman, Your Excellencies and Distinguished Delegates: I am Sun Paranjothy, the Director of Programmes for the International Planned Parenthood Federation, East and South East Asia and Oceania Region (IPPF ESEASOR). I take this opportunity to thank. you Honourable Chairperson for giving me the floor at this meeting. I congratulate you on your election as the Chairperson. I also would like to thank the Regional Director ofWPRO for having invited IPPF to this meeting and convey the apologies of Dr Raj Karim, the Regional Director of IPPF ESEAOR for not being able to be physically present. Honourable Chairperson, IPPF has a presence in over 180 countries globally, with 26 countries in the East and South East Asia and Oceania Region. We are currently making inroads into Timur Leste, Brunei and hopefully the Marshall Islands. IPPF in the early days concentrated on family planning, hence the name Planned Parenthood was apt. Since ICPD, IPPF has moved to encompass sexual and reproductive health, which encompasses family planning as well as the concept of womb to tomb. Subsequent to ICPD+I0, IPPF brought forward our Strategic Framework of the SA's, namely Adolescents and Young People, Access to Services for Marginalized and Undeserved Populations, Abortion especially towards reducing unsafe abortion, AIDS, and Advocacy. Our programmes are rights-based with choices, a world of possibilities as our recent brand. Honourable Chairperson, we have taken note of the WPRO Regional Director's Annual Report and the 2008-2009 Proposed Programme Budget, especially for the area of reproductive health, AIDS and emergency and humanitarian action and see areas for collaboration both at the Secretariat Level and at the Grassroots Levels. With scarce resources for reproductive health we see the wisdom in collaboration and address the issues together. Most of the Honorable Representatives of Member States here are already collaborating with our Member Associations in country and we hope to see more such collaboration. Honourable Chairperson, we wish WHO WPRO all the best and a successful journey to meet their goals. Thank you for your attention.
