Influenza Belarus (20 March 1997).1 Influenza activity declined slowly after its peak in early February. Most laboratoryconfirmed cases during the season were influenza A, mostly diagnosed by immunofluorescence and serological tests. A few cases of influenza B were also diagnosed. One influenza A virus was isolated and further subtyped as influenza A(H1N1). Denmark (12 March 1997).1 Influenza activity reached a peak accounting for 6% of consultations in the sentinel surveillance network in the first 2 weeks of February. Influenza B continued to predominate in February. Hungary (21 February 1997).2 The number of cases of influenza-like illness decreased from 81 000 in the first week of February to 63 000 in the second week. About 300 patients were hospitalized due to influenza in each of these 2 weeks. Influenza A(H3N2) virus has been isolated from 8 cases in different parts of the country and influenza B from 2 cases in the south. Former Yugoslavia (15 March 1997). Influenza activity increased in Belgrade and several other cities in the second half of January. The first virus was isolated in the last week of January and was an influenza A(H3N2) virus. Additional isolates were obtained during February. A sporadic case of influenza B virus was confirmed in February. 1 2

Grippe Bélarus (20 mars 1997).1 L’activité grippale a lentement décliné après un pic au début février. La plupart des cas confirmés au laboratoire au cours de la saison étaient dus à la grippe A, diagnostiquée principalement par immunofluorescence et par des tests sérologiques. Quelques cas de grippe B ont aussi été diagnostiqués. Un virus grippal A a été isolé et caractérisé comme appartenant au sous-type A(H1N1). Danemark (12 mars 1997).1 L’activité grippale a atteint un pic, représentant 6% des consultations au sein du réseau de surveillance sentinelle pendant les 2 premières semaines de février. La grippe B a continué à prédominer en février. Hongrie (21 février 1997).2 Le nombre de syndromes grippaux a diminué, passant de 81 000 au cours de la première semaine de février à 63 000 la deuxième semaine. Près de 300 patients ont été hospitalisés pour une grippe pendant chacune de ces 2 semaines. Le virus grippal A(H3N2) a été isolé sur 8 patients dans différentes parties du pays et le virus B sur 2 patients dans le sud.

Ex-Yougoslavie (15 mars 1997). L’activité grippale s’est accrue à Belgrade et dans plusieurs autres villes au cours de la deuxième moitié de janvier. Le premier virus a été isolé pendant la dernière semaine de janvier; il s’agissait d’un virus grippal A(H3N2). D’autres isolements ont été obtenus en février. Un cas sporadique de grippe B a été confirmé en février. 1 2
