The Third Regional Nutrition Committee in South and East Asia was held in Bandung 1 Indonesia, 23 to 30 June, 1953. The meeting was sponscr ed jointly by FAO and WIO. The previous two meetings of the Committee had been arranged by FAO (Baguio, Hlilippines, l948r Rangoon, Bums., 1950). The meeting was attemed by Goverllm9nt delegates from nine countries of the WHO South East Asia and Western Pacific Regions of 'Which six were Western Pacific members - France, Japan, Netherlands, Philippines, United Kingdom and Vietnam. The Committee reviewed t.he progress that had been mde in the field of nutrition fal.lowing the recommendations of the Second Meeting· in 19501 and considered several nutrition problems of the regions, making recommendations on the means whereby programmes could be· developed in the various countries to bring about further improvements in the nutritional status of the people. The subjects covered by the Committee included :• linprovement of Rice as Consumed Protein Malnutrition in Mothers, Infants and Children Endemic Goitre Calcium in Human Nutrition Vitamin A Deficiency Vitamin E2 Deficienc,y Nutrition Education and Training The report of this Thlrd Regional Nutrition Committee in South and East As i4 .i s attached. The Regional Committee may wish to give particular attention to the last section of the report enl:.itled "Further Training Activities"• In ~his section the Nutrition Committee has recommended that a Regional Course on Nutrition Education and Training should be held, to fill the immediate need fer personnel who can hold nutrition courses for anc:Lllary personnel in their own countries. The Nutritiop Corrmittee requested the appropriate UN Agencies, including WHO, to give all pOssible assistance in helping to organize ·and conduct such a course.
