Peste M adagascar. An outbreak of bubonic plague has been reported in the north-eastern coastal town of Mâhajanga (Mahajanga Province), with a total of 104 cases (5 deaths), 23 of which have been confirmed by the Pasteur Institute. The first cases occurred in March, but the majority of cases were recorded in July/August/September. The team which was sent to the area has reported that the situation is now under control. Plague has been endemic in the country for a number of years and cases occur regularly in the Provinces of Antananarivo and Fianarantsoa, particularly in the rainy season. The last time cases were reported in Mahajanga Province was in 1991. M adagascar. Une flambée de peste bubonique a été rapportée dans la ville côtière de Mahajanga au nord-est du pays (province de Mahajanga), avec un total de 104 cas (5 décès), parmi lesquels 23 ont été confirmés par FInstitut Pasteur. Les premiers cas sont survenus en mars, mais la majorité d’entre eux ont été notifiés en juillet/août/septembre. L'équipe qui a été envoyée dans cette zone a signalé que la situation était actuellement contrôlée. La peste est endémique dans le pays depuis de nombreuses années et des cas surviennent régulièrement dans les provinces d’Antananarivo et de Fianarantsoa, particulièrement pendant la saison des pluies. Les derniers cas enregistrés dans la province de Mahajanga datent de 1991.

Health administrations are reminded that under the provisions of Article 3 of the International Health Regulations they should notify the Organization by telegram, fax or telex within 24 hours of being informed that the first cose of a disease subiecf to the Regulations hos occurred in their territory. The infected area should he notified within the subsequent 24 hours if not already communicated. In addition, they should notify the Organization by telegram, fax or telex

Il est rappelé aux administrations sanitaires qu'aux termes de l'orticle 3 du Règlement sanitaire international elles doivent adresser une notification à l'Organisation par télé­ gramme, fax qu par télex dins les 24 heures, dès qu'elles sont informées qu'un premier cas d'une muladie soumise au Règlement a été signalé dons une zone de leui ressort. Dans les 24 heures qui suivent, elles adressent notification de la zone infectée si elle n'a pas encore été communiquée. En outre, elles doivent adresser une notification à l'Organisation, par télégramme, fax ou par télex dans les 24 heures, dès qu'elles sont infermées d'un cas importé ou trans­ féré dans une zone non-infectée, y compris tous les renseignements disponibles sur l'origine de l'infection.
