On 11 March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the COVID -19 outbreak as a pandemic. This declaration was associated with concerns over the geographic spread of the outbreak since it affected countries on all continents. • In March 2020, a total of 53 346 COVID-19 cases and 3 073 related deaths (CFR 5.8%) were reported from 21 countries of the EM region. • From 29 January 2020 to 31 March 2020, a total of 54 077 confirmed COVID-19 cases including 3 116 related deaths (CFR: 5.8%) were reported from 21 countries, namely Afghanistan (192 cases and 4 deaths), Bahrain (526 cases and 4 deaths), Djibouti (31 cases), Egypt (709 cases and 46 deaths), Islamic Republic of Iran (44 606 cases and 2 898 deaths), Iraq (694 cases and 50 deaths), Jordan (274 cases and 5 deaths), Kuwait (289 cases), Lebanon (463 cases and 12 deaths), Libya (8 cases), Morocco (617 cases and 36 deaths), occupied Palestinian territory (117 cases and 1 death), Oman (192 cases and 1 death), Pakistan (1 865 cases and 25 deaths), Qatar (781 cases and 2 deaths), Saudi Arabia (1 563 cases and 10 deaths), Somalia (5 cases), Sudan (7 cases and 2 deaths), Syrian Arab Republic (10 cases and 2 deaths), Tunisia (422 cases and 12 deaths) and United Arab Emirates (664 cases and 6 deaths). • Since the beginning of pandemic, a total of 3116 deaths have been reported from the region and Islamic Republic of Iran reported the highest number of deaths (2 898) followed by Iraq (50) and Egypt (46).
