Consultative meeting of the Baltic States on the WHO framework convention on tobacco control 1. A consultation on the framework convention on tobacco control to develop a common position of the Baltic States was convened and hosted by the Government of Estonia with the technical support of the Regional Office for Europe (Tallinn, 16 November 2001). The meeting was attended by and had written representations of delegates of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuana. Discussions centred on a document prepared by the Estonian Government in consultation with Latvia and Lithuania, which outlined proposals for the convention. 2. After discussion of the proposals, the consultation produced the framework convention on tobacco control proposed text of the Baltic States, a unified position which the three countries would maintain at the third and future sessions of the negotiations. 3. It is intended to convene future consultations to consolidate the Baltic position on the negotiations under way. = = =
