NOMINATION OF THE REGIONAL DIREC'roR

Article 52 of the Constitution of the World Health Organization provides that the head of the regional office shall be the Regional Director appointed by the Executive Board in agreement with the Regional Committee. The original appointment of Dr Francisco J. Dy as Regional Director beginning 1 July 1966 was for a period of five years, following the nomination made by the Regional Committee at its sixteenth session. l This was approved by the Executive Board at its thirty-seventh session. 2 The Regional Committee at its twenty-first session nominated Dr Dy as Regional Director for a further period of five years from 1 July 1971.3 His reappointment was approved by the Executive Board at its fortyseventh session. 4
To enable the Executive Board at its fifty-seventh session to consider the action to be taken on the expiration of Dr Dy's contract on 30 June 1976, the Regional Committee should at its twenty-sixth session consider the nomination of the Regional Director for the Western Pacific for the period beginning 1 July 1976. Rule 51 of the Rules of Procedure of the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific describes the procedure for the nomination of the Regional Director.
