CHOLERA A ustralia . — The organism isolated from the imported case of cholera reported in the State of Victoria on 6 December 19691 has been identified as V. cholerae biotype eltor, Ogawa. There were no secondary cases. B r u n e i . — On 20 January the presence of cholera was reported from Brunei. Neither the strain of the vibrio involved, nor the size of the outbreak is yet known. In the last decade cholera has been reported only once in the country; in a short-lived outbreak, in 1965, in which 95 cases with 3 deaths (V. cholerae biotype eltor) occurred. S ing apore . — One additional case of cholera due to V. cholerae biotype eltor, Ogawa, has been notified to the Organization for the week ending 3 January.2 , This brings the total number of cases in the present outbreak, which began on 19 December 1969, to 3. One of these has been fatal. No common source of infection has been identified. The vaccination campaign of the population is continuing, and some 5 500 persons have been vaccinated since the beginning of this outbreak. No further cases being reported, Singapore was declared free of infection on 22 January.

On n ’a pas observé de cas secondaire. B r u n é i . — Le choléra a été signalé à Brunéi le 20 janvier. On ne connaît jusqu’ici ni la souche du virus en cause ni l’ampleur de la poussée épidémique. Durant la dernière décennie, la maladie n ’avait été observée qu’une fois dans ce pays; en 1965, en effet, 95 cas avec 3 décès (dus à V. cholerae biotype eltor) avaient été enregistrés lors d ’une épidémie de courte durée. S in g a p o u r . — Un autre cas de choléra dû à V. cholerae biotype eltor, Ogawa, a été notifié à l’Organisation pour la semaine se ter­ minant le 3 janvier.2 Ce cas porte à 3 le nombre total de cas enre­ gistrés jusqu’ici au cours de la flambée survenue le 19 décembre 1969. L ’un des cas a eu une issue fatale. On n ’a pas identifié de source commune d ’infection. La campagne de vaccination de la popula­ tion se poursuit, et quelque 5 500 personnes ont été vaccinées depuis le début de l’épidémie. Aucun nouveau cas n ’étant signalé, Singapour a été déclaré in­ demne d’infection le 22 janvier.
