INFLUENZA SURVEILLANCE 1978).— Two strains of virus B isolated in Hong Kong and one isolated in Wellington have given low haemagglutination-inhibition titres with antiserum B/ Hong Kong/5/72. They have been sent to the WHO Collaborating Centre on Influenza, London. The two strains from Hong Kong were isolated on 13 October 1978 in sporadic cases. The strain from Wellington, B/Wellington/3/78, was isolated from a throat swab obtained on 26 September 1978. This latter strain appears to be different from the strain B/Wellington/2/78 (close to B/Hong Kong/ 5/72) which was isolated on 12 September from a crew member of a ship coining from Sydney, Australia. Fairly large outbreaks of acute respiratory diseaseare at present reported in a few schools in New Zealand. H o n g K o n g , 1 N e w Z e a l a n d 2 (20 October

SURVEILLANCE DE LA GRIPPE 2 (20 octobre 1978). (aged 21 years in average) have sought medical attention every day. Three strains of influenza virus dose to A/USSR/90/77 (H1N1) have been isolated. An increase in the incidence of upper respira tory illness has also been noticed in the general population outside the campus. malades âgés en moyenne de 21 ans se présentent chaque jour à la consultation, et oii l’on a isolé trois souches de virus grippal proches de A/USSR/90/77 (H1N1).
