The Down Syndrome Research Prize was established in 1999 upon the initiative of, and with funds provided by, Dr Abdel Rahman Abdulla Al-Awadi for the purpose of awarding a prize to one or more persons who have made an outstanding contribution in the field of research related to Down syndrome and a grant to one or more persons or one or more nongovernmental organizations or other institutions for research in the same field. 2. The Down Syndrome Research Prize is awarded every other year. There was no call for nominations in 2022 and no prize will be awarded this year. However, a call for nominations was sent out in 2023 and the Down Syndrome Research Prize Foundation Committee will review all nominations during the 70th session of the Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean.
