ANNUAL REPORr OF THE REGIONAL DIREDrOR
The Regional Committee, Having reviewed the eleventh annual report of the Regional Director, which covered not only the activities during the period 1 July 1960 to 30 June 1961 but also summarized the main developments

in the health field during the first decade of the Regional Office, 1.
NarES with satisfaction: (1) the progress which has been made in the health field
during the past ten years; (2) (3) the yearly increase in the number of fellowships awarded; the attention being given to activities in the field of
nutrition; 2.
EMPHASIZES the importance of: (1) a flexible approach to programme planning, bearing
in mind the great differences in the socio-economic development of the countries in the Region; (2) the development of rural public health services as
part of a comprehensive and integrated health programme; (3) the co-ordination of preventive and curative services
in the field of maternal and child health; 3. EXPRESSES the hope that the promotion of mental health will
receive the necessary recognition in the long-range health programme;
4.
SUGGEsrs that leprosy should be an early subject for the
Technical Discussions;
5.
CONGRATULATES the Regional Director and his staff on the
preparation of a comprehensive and detailed report, which provided an excellent summary of activities over the last ten years; 6. ADOPTS unanimously the report. Fourth meeting, 5 September 1961
