Sub-Committee on Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries (Resolution)

WPR/RC33.R2 SUB-COMMITTEE ON TECHNICAL COOPERATION AMONG DEVELOPING COUNTRIES The Regional Committee, Having considered the report of the Sub-Committee on Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries,! 1. NOTES the problems encountered by WHO collaborating centres in promoting technical cooperation among countries; 2. URGES Member States: (1) actively to support national institutions in developing the capacity to participate in programmes of technical cooperation among developing countries of relevance to health programmes in the Region; (2) to take steps to overcome the general operational problems related to the effective technical cooperation among developing countries; administrative implementation and of 3. REQUESTS the Regional Director: (1) to facilitate the exchange of information on WHO collaborating centres and their activities by evolving mechanisms whereby centres with similar programmes may interact; ( 2) to extend financial support, on a contractual basis, to any WHO collaborating centre capable of performing a specific task connected with WHO's programme, giving preference to WHO collaborating centres displaying a growing capacity; (3) to monitor and evaluate the work performed by WHO collaborating centres in the light of objectives, terms of reference, plans of work and time schedules previously jointly defined by the centres and WHO; (4) to maintain close liaison with WHO collaborating centres to identify the need for technical and managerial support for specific programmes on technical cooperation among developing countries; (5) to strengthen institutions with a high to grow in order to serve as active cooperation, familiarizing them with the countries or areas in the Region which might potential or the capacity providers of technical conditions and needs of utilize their servicee; 4. REQUESTS the Sub-Committee, for its work in 1983, to address the subject of technical cooperation aspects of health services research on acute respiratory infections and cardiovascular diseases.
