EM/RC8/R.6 m e Regional Colmdttee, 1 Having studied the dooument uubmitted by the Regional Director on WHO-assisted tuberculosis control programes; Noting with approval the work accomplished in the control of the disease in the Region, 1. INVITES the Reglonal Mreotor to continue to assist countries of the Region in the establishment, development and expansion of their national tuberculosis control programmes particularly bg: 1. making prevalence surveys along scientific and epidemiological lines to measure, with reasonable aoauracy, the extent a d serious- ness of the problem and to form a basis on whloh national t u k w l o - sis control programnes may be scientifically planned and executed: 2. enowaging mass case-finding and domiciliary trcratmant in areas of high prevalence and promoting w s s BCG-vaocination pro- grammes in countries w i t h high and medium prevalence of tubemlo- sis, especially when resources for carrying out muss oase-finding and treatment are limited or non-existent; 3. establishing pilot programaes for developing simple, 11101-0 econolldcal and effeotive prooechrres and techniques for the diagnosis, prevention an& treatment of tuberculosis w i t h the wish that such pilot projeats should be entirely supported by international funds; 2. RECCMENW that Member States seek, *hen appropriate, tho assistance of the Regionel Mreotor in W e traMng in plblic health methods for the oontrol of tubsroulosis of national staff in all categories including auxiliary personnel; 3. UROES Member State8 to promote health education of the prblic wlth regard to the praver~tlon and control of tuberculosis.
