EM/FiCll/R.7 m e Regional Conanittee, 1 Having examined the document on Hospital Administration presented by the Regional Director; Recognizing t h a t hospital services unless well planned and operated become uneconomical and may absorb a l l fbnds a l lo t ted t o the health services including those needed fo r preventive ac t iv i t i es , 1. URGES Ihvermmmts t o pay closer a t tent ion t o hospi ta l administra- t ion both on the cen t ra l l eve l where long-term plans a re made and policy formlated, and on the leve l of individual hospi ta l un i t s where the necessity for effect ive hospi ta l adnrinistration i s becoming urgent i n many rountries; 2. EMPHASIZES the need fo r t ra in ing i n hospi ta l administration, and the award of fellowships i n this f ie ld ; 3 . REQUESTS the Regional Director t o a s s i s t governments a t t he i r request i n improving t h e i r hospi ta l administration, t o encourage schools of public health t o supplement t h e i r basic public health t ra ining with e lect ive courses i n hospi ta l administration f o r physi- cians and laymen, and t o continue t o supply advisory services i n t he f i e l d as well a s i n re la ted f i e l d s such a s hospi ta l planning; * 4. i;URTHER F3WESTS the Regional Director t o arrange fo r the holding of a regional sendnar on hospi ta l administration a s soon a s possible; * 5. DECIDES tha t the subject of the Technical Discussions fo r the Sub-committee i n 1963 should be "Hospital ~drninistration".
