SURVEILLANCE DE LA FIÈVRE JAUNE — Des poussées de fièvre jaune se sont produites en 1979 dans la région de la Volta et dans la région orientale.1 La poussée de la région de la Volta qui s’est déclarée en septembre 1978 semblait terminée en avril 1979 encore qu’un brusque accroissement du nombre de cas ait été rapporté en juillet de la même année. L ’épi démie survenue dans la région orientale au début de 1979 a atteint un pic en mai et paraissait avoir été jugulée en juillet. A cette même date, des poussées ont débuté dans la région de Brong Ahafo, culminant en août-septembre. De janvier à octobre 1979, un total de 446 cas a été signalé dans l’ensemble du pays (Tableau 1). Il y a eu 96 décès, soit un taux de létalité de 22 % qui s’échelonnait entre 15% pour la région de la Volta et 39% pour la région de Brong Ahafo; 177 567 personnes ont été vaccinées, principalement de janvier à mars 1979, dans la région de la Volta et 173 881, principa lement de mai à septembre 1979, dans la région orientale. E n sep tembre, un total de 428 446 personnes avaient été vaccinées dans le pays contre la fièvre jaune.
Eastern Regions during 1979.1 The outbreak in the Volta Region which began in September 1978 seemed to be over by April 1979 although there was a sudden increase in the number of cases reported in the following July. The outbreak in the Eastern Region which began in early 1979 reached a peak in May and appeared to have been controlled by July. Just at that time outbreaks began to occur in the Brong Ahafo Region and reached a peak in August-September. During the period January-October 1979, a total o f 446 cases was reported from all parts o f the country (Table ]). There were 96 fatal cases giving a case-fatality ratio of 22 % ranging from 15 % in the Volta Region to 39 % in the Brong Ahafo Region. Vaccination was carried out in the Volta Region, mainly from January to March 1979 (177 567 persons) and in the Eastern Region, mainly from May to September 1979 (173 881 persons). The total number of yellow fever vaccinations for the country up to September was 428 446. Table J. Tableau 1.
