JUNGLE YELLOW FEVER G u y a n a . — A fatal case of jungle yellow fever, infected near the village of Kokerite, North West District, was diagnosed in November 1968, but has not been included in the statistics of the Pan American Health Organization until now. The deceased was an Amerindian living in Moruka, who was recruited in September 1968 to work with a geological party in the region of Kokerite and fell ill about four weeks after arriving in that area. He was ill for three or four days before he was sent to Mabaruma Hospital by speed boat. This journey took about two days, and he died soon after being admitted to the hospital. A liver section was sent to the laboratory of the University of the West Indies, where yellow fever was diag nosed as the cause of death.

FIÈVRE JAUNE DE BROUSSE G u y a n e .

P e r u . — During th e m o n th s of December 1969 and January 1970, 17 cases of jungle yellow fever were reported in Tarma Province, Department of Junta, and 12 cases in Oxapampa Province, Depart ment of Pasco. All of these cases were males from 11 to 50 years of age, and 25 of the 29 were from 15 to 44 years of age. In the months of March to June 1969, three cases of jungle yellow fever were reported in Tarma Province and seven in four other forested areas of the Departments of Huânuco, Junta and Ayacucho. Of these 10 earlier cases, three were females and one was an 8-year-old child. The cases in 1969 and 1970 were all reported on the basis of clinical diagnosis ; in a few cases it was possible to obtain samples of the liver for laboratory confirmation. Twenty-one of the 23 cases in 1969, and five of the 16 cases in January 1970 were fatal.
