INFLUENZA Malaysia (information dated 9 July 1971) — 1 The epidemic of influenza-like illness which has affected since 10 May the general population of Kuala Lumpur and Petalmg Jaya is quickly subsiding after reaching its peak on 20 June Approximately 10 000 cases were observed (population 700 000). Adults and pre-school chil­ dren were mostly affected. It was mild among university students (50 cases out of 8 000 students) Evidence o f infection with virus A2/Hong Kong/68 was obtained from about 50% of the specimens examined (isolations and sero­ logy). Evidence of infection with dengue virus was obtained from several influenza negative specimens S ingapore (information dated 6 July 1971) — From the be­ ginning of May until the present date, there has been in Singapore an epidemic of influenza-like illness, which is now on its decline Adults and children were both affected. Eight strains of virus A2/Hong Kong/68 were isolated from ten throat garghngs collected at random from patients. 1 Sec Nos. 24 and 26. pp. 241 and 240

L’infection a virus A2/Hong Kong/68 fut mise en évidence dans environ 50% des prélèvements (isolements et sérologie) On mit en evidence une infection a virus dengue dans plusieurs prélève­ ments négatifs pour la grippe Singapour (information en date du 6 juillet 1971) — Depuis le debut du mois de mai et jusqu’à ce jour, on a observé a Singapour une épidémie d ’affections d’allure grippale, qui est maintenant sur son déclin Elle a affecté aussi bien les adultes que les enfants. Huit souches de virus A2/Hong Kong/68 ont été isolées dans dix prélèvements pharyngés faits au hasard chez des malades. 1 VoirN«24et24,pp 241et260.
