MALARIA SURVEILLANCE — In the last five-year period (1976-1980), 117 malaria cases were diagnosed in Israel. With no exception, all were imported cases, of which 74 were among Israeli citizens returning from abroad, 19 in foreigners coming to Israel and 24 in new immigrants (Table 1). The distribution of cases by place of acquisition was as follows; African countnes—87 cases (74.3%), followed by Asian countries—21 Isr a el. Isr a ël.

SURVEILLANCE DU PALUDISME — Au cours de la dernière période quinquennale (19761980), 117 cas de paludisme ont été diagnostiqués en Israël, il s’agis­ sait exclusivement de cas importés, soit 74 par des citoyens israéliens rentrant de l’étranger, 19 par des étrangers arrivant en Israël et 24 par de récents immigrants (tableau 1). (17.9%), South or Central Americas—6 (5.1%) and very few other parts of the world (Table 2). The majority of malaria cases were caused by Plasmodium vivax (61,5%), as against Plasmodium falciparum (32.5%) and other (6.1%) (Table 2).

Continued vector control and surveillance activities, including case detection, radical treatment, epidemiological investigation and con­ stant informing of the medical services are the basic methods used to maintain the country free of local infection.

L’action soutenue de lutte anti vectorielle et de surveillance, notam­ ment le dépistage, le traitement radical, les enquêtes épidémiologi­ ques et l’information constante des services médicaux sont les métho­ des fondamentales utilisées'pour maintenir le pays indemne d’infec­ tion locale.
