POLIOMYELITIS SURVEILLANCE (contd) S u L anka . — In the first quarter January-March 1978, 18 cases of poliomyelitis were reported as compared to 35 in the previous quarter and 20 in the corresponding period of 1977. Although a decline in incidence in the first three months of the year is consistent with the seasonal pattern of the disease in the country, it is the second lowest total recorded since the third quarter of 1967 when 16 cases were notified. The Colombo District including the Colombo Municipality accounted for 14 o f the 18 cases (78%). The polio virus isolations that have been made were type 1.
SURVEILLANCE DE LA POLIOMYÉLITE (suite) Sr i L anka . — Au premier trimestre (janvier-mais 1978), il a été signalé 18 cas de poliomyélite contre 35 le trimestre précédent et 20 pendant la période correspondante en 1977. Si une baisse d ’inddence au cours des trois premiers mois de l'année est conforme au tableau saisonnier de la maladie dans le pays, ce total est le plus bas qui ait été enregistré depuis le troisième trimestre de 1967 (16 cas). Quatorze des 18 cas (78%) se sont déclarés dans le district de Colombo, y compris la ville de Colombo. Les virus isolés étaient du type 1.
