C. 20433 TELEPHONE: EXECUTIVE 3-6360 Subject: World Bank Group Resident August 9, 1971 Representative in Nepal The World Bank today announced the appointment of Mr. Alexander F. Kirk, Chief of the Bank's India Division, as the World Bank Group's Resident Representative in Nepal. Mr. Kirk will assume his new post in the middle of August 1971. The appointment of a Resident Representative in Kathmandu is intended to help to develop a close working relationship between the Government of • Nepal and the World Bank Group • Mr. Kirk, a British citizen, joined the Bank Group in 1963 as an Investment Officer with the Bank's affiliate, the International Finance Corporation. In 1966, he became an Operations Officer in the India Division of the Bank and the International Development Association. In 1969, he was made Chief of the Division. Mr. Kirk has his M.A. from Oxford University and was called to the Bar at the Hiddle Temple. Prior to joining the Bank Group, he practiced law in England. - 0 - •
