 73079 INDIA GUJARAT RURAL ROADS PROJECT TRAINING PROGRAM AIDE-MEMOIRE 1. Mr. George Vales visited Gujarat on May 21 through 22, 1990. The mission wishes to record its appreciation to the Gujarat PWD of the assistance received from all concerned and in particular for the arrangements made for the meetings. The visit of GERI, laboratories, engineering staff college and the site visit. Attachment 1 - lists the principal officials met. 2. The training component of this project has already been started. However the activities should be intensified, since the training program has been completed for less than 20% (taking into account the number of trainee-day). 3. The mission was presented the revised programs which involve number of local training institutions and recommended to keep on using these Gujarat resources (AMA: Ahmedabad Management Association, ORG: Operation Rese.lrch Group, GERI: Guj arat Engineering Research Institute, NICMAR: National Institute of Construction Management and Research ... ) 4. After interviewing typical staff and visiting the Gandhinagar Engineering Staff College, the mission requested PWD to emphasize training on practice and field work including field visits on typical project. 5. The mission also agreed with PWD officials that the contractors personnel training should be j ntensified and some training courses such as "Proj ec t ! -' 2 Management", -introduction to MOST specifications· be delivered to a mixed audience of State officers and contractors personnel. 6. Due to the delays in procurement of equipments, the mechanical training has not yet started. The mission urged PWD to strongly request the manufacturers to speed up the delivery of the said equipment and start the training of mechanical engineers, mechanics and operators. G.
