TELEPHONE: EXECUTIVE 3-6360 For Release .Mil Newspapers SUBJECT: World Bank Resident Representativt Tuesday, September 4, 1962 for Ghana In response to a request from the Government of Ghana, the World Bank has agreed to send a resident representative to Ghana. He will be available to ad- vise the Government on economic and financial matters and will help to maintain a close working relationship between the Bank and the Government of Ghana on all subjects of nru.tual interest. Dr. Leon Baranski, of the Development Advisory s~,rvice of the Bank, will • be the resident representative., and arrived in Accra on August 19. He will be assisted by Dr. Pomma Wignaraja, on loan from the Central Bank of Ceylon. Dr. Baranski brings to his assignment the experience gained during his career with the Polish Finance Hinistry (1919-1931) and his service from 1931 - 1946 with the Polish Central Bank, of which he was Director General. Since 1950 he has served successively as 11anaging Director of the Ethiopian Develop- ment Bank, Financial Adviser to the Development Planning Board of Indonesia, and Adviser to the Bank of Sudan. Dr. Wignaraja will work primarily with the National Planning Commission of Ghana, advising upon methods for mobilizing internal and external financial resources for development. Before accepting his present assignment, he was head or the Elconom.ic Development Division of the Research Department of the • Central Bank of Ceylon. In 19.58, he undertook an assignment for the United Nations as Economic Adviser to the National Bank of Libya.
