The Credit became effective in July 1980. The estimated total cost of the project was US$18 million of which US$15 million was covered by the Credit. The Credit account was closed on June 30, 1986 when all the funds were disbursed. This repor;, prepared by a Unesco mission for the Government of Burundi under the terms of the Unesco-World Bank Cooperative Agreement, is a follow up on the Government-prepared evaluation report dated December 1986. The Unesco mission, comprising an architect and a technical edu- cator, reviewed the relevant files at IDA headquarters and discussed the project with the concerned IDA staff. The mission visited Burundi during February 13-27, 1987, held mettings with the appropriate authorities and visited project institutions. Information from the field visit and the Government report was used in preparing this report. The valuable assis- tance provided by the Government, particularly Project Implementation Unit staff, is gratefully acknowledged. In accordance with thi revised procedures for project performance reporting, this PCR was read by the Operations Evaluation Department (OED) but the project was not audited ty OED staff. The draft PCR was sent to the Borrower and its agencies for comments on September 23, 1988.
